Centene Corporation exceeded expectations in the third quarter, reporting a profit of $713 million and revenue of $42 billion. This represents a significant increase from the previous year's profit of $469 million and revenue of $38 billion.
For the first nine months of the year, Centene's revenue reached $122.3 billion, up from $114.5 billion, while profits rose to $3 billion compared to $2.7 billion last year. CEO Sarah London credited the company's success to improved Medicare Advantage star ratings, successful bids, and ongoing operational efficiencies.
Centene's total membership grew to 28.6 million, with a decline of about 2 million members in Medicaid offset by gains in other segments. The company expects earnings per share of at least $6.80 for the year and projects revenue between $159 billion and $161 billion for 2024. Notably, Centene highlighted recent Medicaid contract wins in states such as Iowa, Pennsylvania, and Florida, and reported that 46% of its members are now in Medicare plans with at least 3.5 stars, a significant increase from 23% last year.
