UBS CEO Sergio P. Ermotti has called on the next US president to prioritize global stability, particularly in addressing the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.
Ermotti emphasized the importance of direction and stability in the face of dangerous geopolitical developments. He expressed optimism that the election outcome would lead to effective resolutions for these urgent issues.
Ermotti also highlighted UBS's willingness to collaborate with all governments, noting the bank's significant reliance on the US market, where more than half of its customers are located. He also commented on the divergent economic recoveries in the US and Europe, attributing the US's rapid rebound from the pandemic to decisive government actions, while Europe faces fragmentation due to increased dependence on subsidies.
The CEO had previously criticized European regulators for impeding the growth of local banks after the 2008 financial crisis, resulting in US banks dominating the sector and leaving Europe to play catch-up.
